Mizoram prepares for Census 2011
Aizawl, April 15 (Newmai News Network) : Mizoram is ready to prepare the new population list with the rest of the country.
Hectic preparations are in full swing such as training for census operation, 2011 to officials entrusted for house listing operation and national population registration which will be completed by June this year.
In connection with this, a three-day district level training for census operation for 2011, held in Lunglei Circuit House Conference Hall was concluded on April 9.
Officials from Lunglei, Lawngtlai and Saiha districts attended the training programme. BDOs and other officers of the 3 districts have also been appointed ‘charge-officers’ for their respective circles and the population enumeration will begin from February next year.
The training was attended among others by the Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai district, Thlamuana, Senior Officers of Saiha district and Deputy Director of Census Operation, Lalhmingthanga.
The Local Administration Department minister, government of Mizoram while speaking at the programme has said that the census data will be utilized by the Centre for according sanction for development schemes in the state.
Meanwhile, as per the 2001 general census, the population of Mizoram is 8,88,573 of which 5,67,159 (52.57%) are workers and 4,21,414 are non-workers.
It is projected that the population of Mizoram would cross 11, 26,067 with 2,49,092 families.
The projected figure also revealed that rural workers will overtake that of urban workers with 55%.
