Recently, Zolengthe.net conducted an opinion poll on the common name for ‘Chhinlung chhuak’ (Zo? to Zomis, Lai to Lai people, etc) the result is below:

zo opinion poll

Zolengthe.net conducted an opinion poll on the choice of the nomenclatures which are being imposed on the Zo decendants by a foreigners. These nomenclatures are known as Kuki and Chin. On the other hand, the Zomi and Mizo are in a vice versa arrangement. The question of the poll goes…

Which nomenclature is politically acceptable in your opinion?

Amazingly, out of 52 opinions, 46 percent consisting of 24 votes opined Zomi as the best acceptable nomenclature for the Zo people. Sisteen votes (31%) go for Mizo and 9 and 3 votes for Kuki and Chin.

Source: Zolengthe.net

That is an interesting piece we’ve come across. Why only 54 people voted in the online poll? There are atleast over a thousand active internet users from Mizo community alone leave alone the number of Zomis. Why the poll was not published through Kuki-Chin-Mizo blogs and websites like misual.com, zogam.com, lawrkhawm.com, zawlbuk.net, maraland.net, chinworld.info, kukiforum.com and others? The opinion poll result does not really reflect the choice of the majority Kuki-Chin-Mizo internet users but most likely the choice of Zolengthe.net, a small group of enthusiast/Zo nationalist friends from Zomi tribe. If others like Nagas, Khasis, Manipuris, etc find out such poll, will they not laugh at us. We need to wake up and widen our views from something small like this. 54 votes indicate how many of us are united and are in one platform. It is pathetic.

In fact, the number of Kuki-Chin-Mizo is much bigger than Nagas, Khasis and other tribals in the region. We are present in Chittagon Hill Tracts, Bangladesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram in India; Chin state and Saigong Division in Myanmar. However, Mizoram is our only Home for now.
